Therefore, when selecting the diameter of the wire, the following three factors should be considered:

First, the effect of tensile strength or hardness of steel wire

The tensile strength of steel wire is high and the hardness is high. In the flattening process, the resistance to longitudinal movement per unit volume of steel wire increases and the elongation decreases. The unit volume of the steel wire moves to the lateral movement with less resistance, and the width increases. On the contrary, the steel wire is easy to extend lengthwise, and its width decreases. This is the reason why steel wire hardness is high and easy to be wide, hardness is small, and easy to stretch and not wide in the production. If the tensile strength deviation of the steel wire is large and the hardness uniformity of the steel wire strip is poor, the width difference of the rolled billet is large, which will seriously affect the quality of the billet.
Second, the influence of steel wire surface roughness
In the rolling process, if the surface of the steel wire is rough, the relative friction coefficient between the steel wire and the roll will increase, the friction resistance will increase, the elongation of the steel wire will decrease, and the width will increase. The material with weighted leather in production is easy to be wide, because its surface is rough. On the contrary, the surface of the steel wire is smooth, because the friction resistance between the steel wire and the roll is small, it is easier to extend and the width is small. Domestic steel wire in order to prevent rust, the surface coated with butter, such as butter removal is not clean, easy to slip when rolled flat, but also affect its width.
Third, the effect of chemical composition and metallographic structure of steel wire
The higher the carbon content of the steel wire, the worse its plasticity, the smaller the section compression and elongation of the steel wire, the deformation of the steel wire is difficult during rolling, and the width is small. For alloy steel wire, because the alloy element dissolved in the solid solution can improve the cold work hardening rate of the steel wire, its deformation resistance is large, the rolling width is small, and it is easy to crack.
